Pegaso's show career ended all too soon. He picked up the undershot bite gene from his paternal grand aunt. Pegaso, Notia, Vitaly have all gone undershot and will never fulfill their destiny in the show ring or breeding. This is what happens when a breeder fails to disclose information she has about bad bites or other problems in her line. Shefaro Borzoi in 2003 has had to make a complete turnaround in breeding. All kids and grandkids of Bokhara Shefaro El Dorado are placed in pet homes. Show careers are cut short and breeding is non-existent. A potentially great group of show/breeding Borzoi are now relegated to pet status. While they have wonderful lives as pets, that was not what I had intended for them. Pegaso was my pride and joy. I never imagined letting him go. The worst part of this gene is that the undershot doesn't show up until the dog is at least a year of age. A heartbreaker, to say the least. Pegaso is happy in his new home, but I am not with the line that I bred into Shefaro and the nondisclosure of the breeder who sold me the dog that caused so much heartache and devastation to my breeding program. Here is Pegaso at his new home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, with his new friend, an Irish Wolfhound, Zeus.
