Goats and Sheep
Please email shefaro@peoplepc.com or call (210) 626-3156 about available goats, sheep and Shefaro Livestock Guardian Dogs.

Shefaro's goat herd started with the purchase of a small herd of Pygmy Goats in 1994 to get an agricultural exemption.  While shopping for Pygmies to build my herd, I discovered Boer Goats.   Holding my own sales in Tennessee, Arkansas and Kentucky was great fun and at a time when Boer Goats sold in the thousands of dollars.  When I originally bought into Boer Goats at a high price, I knew the market would not sustain it and Boer Goat prices would taper off to those of any other good registerable goats.    They have and so my herd  took a turn to a mixture of sheep and goats, Boer crosses, Pygmies, Nubians, Spanish goats and Barbado sheep.   Since I do not sell my goats directly for cabrito (eating/slaughter), I decided also not to continue breeding show goats as that is there end as well.    Having lived in New York City, San Francisco and Mexico City, I never thought I would become a goat rancher in S. Texas.   I only knew goats were something you saw in a cartoon, tied to a sign that read "Junk Yard" eating a tin can.  They are so not that!    While ranch life is hard work, it is very rewarding.   I am lucky and happy that God has granted me this work that I love.   And to quote actor Jack Nicholson "If you have work you love, you have a life."  Please click on the links above for the different breeds and years at Shefaro. I also have a variety of sheep including some Jacob Four Horn and Barbado.

History

Shefaro Boer Goats was founded in 1993 with the importation of Boer Goats into the United States from South Africa and acquistition of Uno, my Full Blood Boer Goat herd sire in 1994 and several Full Blood Nannies. The herd has grown considerably since then and has changed considerably.

Both Shefaro Borzoi and Boer Goats are winning in their respective show rings and I look forward to greater success in the new year.
