Shefaro Hidden Meadow's Lola Rouge
Lola Rouge will NOT be bred to Sporting Field's Admiral. After doing a "test mating" pedigree, the common ancestors in their background would prove to be a health issues disaster. The major health issues (coming from their common ancestor, shown to Best in Show and bred to tons of bitches by Windrock,) from wry mouths, undescended testicles, bad temperaments, heart problems, and bloat, prevents any ethical breeder from doing this mating. A champion pedigree means nothing if your dog is dead! IF she is to be bred, it will be to KB's Einstein, JC, who is strong, healthy, has a great temperament, is a great lure coursing dog, and comes from the top racing bloodlines in the country, with no health issues. He will be shown as well if he likes it. Producing a strong, healthy Greyhound with a great mind and stable temperament would be my goal.
Lola's story - While looking for a Greyhound playmate for Lola, I had the misfortune to encounter some very unethical Greyhound breeders. What should have been fun turned out to be one of the worst experiences of my life. Click the link for the story:

Subject: Hermana
Hi Sherry,
I actually went to your website to give you an update on Hermana (who is doing wonderfully, by the way), when I saw the link for the Greyhounds and saw the picture of Lola. I almost wish I hadn't. I'm so sorry you had to go through that. The best way to handle people like that once your business is done is to "shake the dust off your sandals and leave them to their own bad ends," to paraphrase a New Testament quote. People like that always manage to hang themselves eventually. Don't let them make you miserable. They're so miserable themselves that they are not happy unless everyone else is. The truth is what it is, and they can't change it, no matter what spin they put on it. Seems like you've done all you can and others are aware of the kind of people they are. I still remember your taking an entire line out of your breeding stock because of potential jaw/bite problems in some of the progeny that would not show until over age one year.
As for Hermana, it's hard to believe she will be 6 years old in July. Her birthday is the same day as my sister's, so it's hard to forget. She is doing wonderfully, even got a couple of good pics on my old phone but can't email them. She is so spoiled, and she has decided she is mine. We had a real Kodak moment this morning. I ended up rescuing a bicolor Chihuahua mix last week that was at death's door, malnourished, dehydrated and begining organ failure. Vet said she would not have lasted another day. Well, that was last week. After seeing her on the couch all last week, hardly moving for a couple of days, on 5 doses of subcue fluids daily, as well as antibiotics, she is back to her old self, an 8 pound bundle of energy. She has her usual spot--my pillow. It was so funny this morning. Hermana was leaning on th head of the bed, Princess was curled up in front of her, and Odette (our other Borzoi) had her head on Princess. Perfect shot, right? But I was sleeping, and as soon as I got up, they all moved.
As for getting a dog from Shefaro, even though I got Hermana indirectly through Gentle Giants, I would take a Shefaro dog any day of the week, especially if Hermana is typical of what we can expect. She is the most gentle dog with a great heart and spirit. Who needs a Paper Pedigree, when the dog speaks for itself? She's spoiled rotten, but that's because we spoil her. She is a little mischievous (loves to play rough sometimes) but always settles down and comes when asked. She is the official Roto Rooter for everyone's ears, even the little ones, and she never fails to find an accessible belly button. Also, I work nights as a home care nurse, and all the dogs love to cuddle, but Aerie always takes her spot right next to me. Hard to believe they all fit on the bed--2 Borzoi, a Golden Retriever and a Bullmastiff, not to mention a little Chihuahua which will probably end up with up with my friends who just had to put their dog down due to degenerative disc disease.
No poison pen letter can demolish what you've built. Your dogs speak for themselves. And their owners will certainly speak up for them. I'm so glad you are careful where they go. These are very special dogs. The one thing it does do for us is that when the dogs go out, we go with them. Talk about being close to your dogs. My point is, when you get a rescue dog, you never know for sure what you're getting. However, when you spend a significant amount of time and money to obtain a dog for show or breeding, you should have full disclosure of all the pros and cons pertaining to the animal.
Even though you don't have pictures, please know that Hermana is doing well, and she is one of the best dogs we have ever had. I hope she stays around for another 6-12 years, at least. Maybe we will be able to find a fountain of youth potion before then.
Hugs,
Anna-Marie

October 12, 2007 found us at lure coursing practice. Lola took off like a bat out of he** and then decided she'd had enough half way through the course. Some dogs, while avid "chasers," do not necessarily take to chasing the artificial lure. I will try her again at another practice.

Sadly it may be time to part with Lola Rouge. She is a wonderful girl, but my experiences with Greyhound people have been almost 100% negative. I was looking for a male as a playmate for Lola Rouge and that was one of the worst experiences of my life www.shefaro.com/AnneSheridanCashelGreyhoundPup Read that page and you'll see ONE of the main reasons why I am giving up on Greyhounds. Life is too short to deal with people like Anne Sheridan, like Lola's breeder and several of her cohorts, as well as the breeder of Windrock's Chynna Doll (Dam of the cryptorchid puppy dog) who only wants her kennel name left off everything pertaining to the pup so as to hide the fact that her line can produce dogs with only one testicle, etc. etc. etc. Lola will make a great pet. Please email shefaro@peoplepc.com for an application. She is not just going to anyone. I do not know how she is with cats as I have none. I don't think she has a very strong prey drive because she only chased a lure half way around the field and stopped. She's showing UKC this week - Jan 25, 26, 27.
Will post how it went after the weekend.
